Stearic Acid Selection Guide
Step 1: Check the melting point (determines hardness and heat resistance)
- For high heat resistance and hardness (> 65°C): Choose FA 1895. With C18 content near 97%, it's ideal for high-temperature applications or products requiring structural support.
- Medium heat resistance (around 60°C): Choose FA 1865. The standard high-purity stearic acid, balancing hardness and cost.
- Low melting point and high flexibility (approx. 55°C): Choose FAB, FAR, or FAR40. Contains more C16, resulting in a lower melting point and a smoother, silkier feel.
Step 2: Check Iodine Value (determines antioxidant capacity and color)
- White products, outdoor weatherability, food contact: Choose FAB or FA 1895. Extremely low iodine value (<0.5) prevents oxidation and yellowing.
- Dark rubber, internal components: Choose FAR or FAR40. More affordable with trace unsaturated bonds that facilitate processing.

- Rubber tires/products: Recommend FAR40 or FAR.
- PVC Plastic/Profiles: Recommend FA 1865 or FAB.
- Cosmetics/Pharmaceuticals: FA 1895 is mandatory.
- Candle/Polishing Wax: Recommend FA 1865 or FA 1895.
